At Sandgate Bayside Dental, we understand that accidents happen. Our practice is open six days a week offering various services. If you experience an accident or pain or for any kind of dental needs, call us on 07 3269 2443 and we will be able to book you an appointment with our highly experienced dentists. We will strive to book an appointment for you as soon as possible in order to help you alleviate your pain and offer a permanent solution to your problem. We keep appointments every day for emergencies including Saturdays. Our online bookings are open 24 hours for you to book a convenient time yourself.

What kind of dental emergency can arise?

There are several reasons that you may need to see a dentist urgently. These include:

  • Broken teeth
  • Lost teeth through accident or injury
  • Sudden, unbearable toothache
  • Dental abscess
  • Damage to braces, crowns & bridges and other restorations
  • Excessive or unstoppable bleeding after oral surgery

Here is what your dentist may do if you come for an emergency appointment at Sandgate Bayside Dental:

Broken teeth

You should see a dentist even for minor chips or cracks, to prevent further problems arising. Your dentist will smooth down any rough edges of a damaged tooth and restore it using white fillings, composite bonding or crowns, depending on the amount and area of damage.

Lost teeth

If your teeth are knocked out in an accident or through injury, it may be possible for your dentist to re-implant them in the socket. Only pick your tooth up by the crown, never by the root. If you can’t re-implant it yourself, put it in a clean container covered in your own saliva or milk, and come to our practice as soon as possible. Never re implant baby teeth though.

Tooth ache and dental abscess

Unbearable tooth ache or dental abscess (painful swellings) require quick action from a dentist. We will drain any abscesses under local anaesthetic and will get you out of pain – you may require further appointments to fully correct a problem.

Broken orthodontic devices and restorations

If a brace, bridge or other restoration breaks, book an appointment at Sandgate Bayside Dental as soon as you can. We will restore or replace devices as necessary.

Cost

Our prices are highly competitive. We offer several payment options like Afterpay, Zip Pay and Interest Free Payment Plans (Humm). For children under 17yrs of age, we can bulk bill their dental treatment (check eligibility with our front desk staff). We do accept DVA card and Oral health vouchers from Metro North Oral health services.

Porcelain-Veneers-Woman-After-Treatment.jpg

A big broad smile is the cure to a lot of problems of life and your teeth make the biggest part of this medicine.

But what if your teeth are stained, eroded or cracked or there are a few gaps between your teeth?

Feeling hesitant to smile big with your teeth showing?

So, what can you do?

When it comes to improving the appearance of your teeth, porcelain veneers come as a great solution.

One of the most popular cosmetic dental services, porcelain veneers are designed to cover the front surface of your teeth to give you a near ideal smile.

What are Porcelain Veneers?

These are thin, custom-made ceramic shells made from tooth-coloured materials which are bonded directly to your front teeth. Veneers are surprisingly easy to take care of as they do not require any additional maintenance – you just floss and brush your teeth as you would normally do.

As they are custom coloured and highly stain resistant, you can enjoy that coffee and wine and your smile will continue to shine.

5 reasons to know why you would benefit from porcelain veneers as your ideal teeth solution:

You teeth are broken, chipped or cracked

There are several reasons why you may have broken or chipped teeth. No matter how you’ve got broken, cracked or chipped teeth, porcelain veneers can provide you a solution.

Some treatment centres for porcelain veneers in Brisbane offer excellent services.

They treat your teeth depending on the severity of chip, break or crack and customise the veneer to perfectly match your remaining teeth and other teeth.

This treatment will deliver you a refined smile with a natural look.

You want to get rid of worn-down teeth

Although your teeth get worn down naturally as you age, grinding or clenching can severely damage your tooth structure.

Matters can get worse if the problem is not dealt promptly and properly.

What porcelain veneers do for patients with worn down teeth is that they restore the appearance of teeth and stabilize the teeth.

Your teeth are discoloured or stained

There are many reasons for teeth discolouration.

To name a few, excessive fluoride in water when you were little, long usage of several drugs or excessive smoking, the presence of large fillings, or root canal treatment on your front teeth

Whatever the cause, teeth discoloration is hard to remove completely.

Even teeth whitening products or in-office whitening may not help much in several cases.

However, porcelain veneers can come as a rescue remedy for you if you dream to get a natural looking pearly white smile.

Your teeth have gaps between them

Having small or big gaps between teeth can severely erode your confidence.

Porcelain veneers are a great solution to close the gaps between your teeth, giving your teeth that perfect look!

Your teeth have uneven shape

Porcelain veneers can greatly help in treating minor alignment issues.

If your teeth are uneven, or irregularly shaped, or have bulges or craters in them, porcelain veneer can fix your issues.

Book your consult today with Sandgate Bayside Dental for porcelain veneers in Brisbane if you relate to any of these teeth problems.

While they offer the obvious aesthetic benefits of having whiter, straighter teeth, they will also give you that extra sense of self-assurance to want to go out into the world and shine!

bad-breath.jpg
22/Aug/2020

Bad breath or ‘halitosis’ is relatively common. It is common on waking, usually due to low salivary flow and lack of oral cleansing during sleep. This can be rectified by eating, rinsing the mouth with water and oral hygiene. Other causes of self-limiting halitosis include certain foods like garlic, onion, spices, and smoking and taking alcoholic beverages.

Halitosis is caused by a group of bacteria that live in your mouth, throat or your digestive system. These bacteria commonly feed on protein which is found in the meat, fish and dairy products that you eat. As the bacteria break down the protein, they release a waste product, sulphur, which causes bad breath. The more these bacteria multiply and feed, the worse your breath will smell.

Sounds pretty disgusting, right?

Don’t worry. Sandgate Bayside Dental has the latest cutting-edge technology to diagnose whether you suffer from bad breath or not, and if you do where in your mouth does it originate from.

Intrigued?

In the last few years, we have had people travel from all over Queensland and northern New South Wales to get their breath tested. Most of these people have suffered from bad breath all their life and have been told (or indicated) by their family and friends about their bad breath. Despite doing everything right for years they still are not clear whether it’s just in their head or they really and truly suffer from halitosis.

Won’t a machine which can objectively test the bad breath and is not biased like human nose be a great idea?

Oral Chroma – The machine that detects and measures bad breath. Sandgate Bayside Dental is one of the only dental practices in Queensland which has this cutting-edge technology. Book in with Sandgate Bayside Dental to get tested today!

Bad Breath Treatment

The first, and often the hardest step for many people in getting treatment for their bad breath is how to decide where to go to get the bad breath checked. If you have stumbled over our website and are now aware of our bad breath technology, you can book in for the assessment. Once you’re booked in you just need to remember – for an accurate reading you mustn’t eat, drink or smoke (or chew chewing gum) for 4 hours before the appointment. You may drink water up until 1 hour before your appointment. Avoid putting lip stick, deodorant, perfumes etc.

When you come in, we will ask you to fill in a lengthy Questionnaire which can help us in the diagnosis of your problem.

The Breath Test is very simple and easy to do. We put a syringe (there is no needle attached) into your mouth while you breathe normally through your nose. It stays in your mouth for a minute then we suck up the Breath sample which is then injected into the Oral Chroma Breath Testing Machine. It takes about 5 minutes to analyse the sample after which we can show you the results and even print them out for you to take home.

The Oral Chroma or simply known as “The breath testing machine”

The Oral Chroma tests for 3 Volatile Sulphur Gases all of which are the end products of bacterial metabolism;

  1. Hydrogen Sulphide. The bacteria which grow on the upper surface of your tongue generate this gas. It smells like rotten eggs. The removal of these bacteria can be achieved in mild cases with tongue scraping or brushing. In more severe cases a probiotic is needed as well.
  2. Methyl Mercaptan. The bacteria which grow round the gums generate this gas. It smells like faeces. The removal of these bacteria is achieved, again in mild cases, with a complete removal of calculus (tartar) by the Dentist or Hygienist, and daily at home use of floss or interproximal brushes as well as thorough at home brushing. In more severe cases a probiotic is again needed.
  3. Dimethyl Sulphide. The bacteria that generate this gas grow round the throat, sinuses and nasal passages. A sinus rinse can help, a probiotic can help and you possibly may need to see an ENT Specialist if we can’t resolve the problem using the sinus rinse or probiotic.

Probiotics for the mouth..

One of the miracles of the Bad Breath Treatment is the use of the K Force Probiotic developed by Blis Technologies. Blis is a New Zealand company that commercializes research that has been conducted at the University of Otago over the last 30 years.

The Probiotic we use is a Blis product and it uses particular strains of a bacteria that everyone has in their mouth, Streptococcus Salivarius. Blis have isolated particular strains of Strep Salivarius and these strains produce enzymes: Salivaricin A and Salivaricin B which under the right conditions, will replace bacteria that produce Bad Breath and Halitosis. We will reproduce these laboratory conditions when we treat your Bad Breath.

Your Local North Brisbane Dentists at Sandgate Bayside Dental are ready

As your Local Sandgate Dentist knows, the Australian Dental Association’s annual health promotion campaign, Dental Health Week, takes place from 3rd – 9th August 2020.  The aim of this is to educate all Australians about the importance of maintaining good oral health in their lives.

This year, the focus of Dental Health week is the effect of sugar on oral health, specifically with the aim of shedding light on hidden sugars.

Being healthy is something that most of us aim for.

We brush our teeth twice a day. We go for a jog around the neighbourhood. We eat a handful of nuts instead of chomping on a chocolate. We see our doctor whenever we don’t feel well.

But are you aware that all your good work could be being undone by sugars lurking in the depths of many of the processed food items you consume?

Sugar is everywhere in supermarket staples, even some that might appear to be healthy on the surface, and so this Dental Health Week (3 – 9 August | dentalhealthweek.com.au), we’re pulling back the sugary curtain to show you what’s really in the food you eat, and how this information can help you be healthier all over but especially in your mouth.

In other words, we want you to become more “sugar savvy”. It’s time to take a closer look at your supermarket purchases. They’re not as healthy as you might think.

Some of the key recommendations from ADA

Consume no more than 6 teaspoons (24 grams) of free sugar per day

Choose foods with less than 10 grams of sugar per 100 grams.

Look out for hidden sugars when purchasing foods and drinks.

Some General messages from ADA on Dental health week

Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.

Clean between your teeth daily with floss or interdental brushes.

Eat a nutritious diet, low in sugar.
Visit your dentist regularly for check-ups and preventative care.

Your local Brighton dentists at Sandgate Bayside Dental are taking part in this year’s ADA run Dental Health Week. We encourage you to start monitoring your sugar intake and be sugar savvy!

30/Jul/2020

On 1 January 2014 the Australian Government introduced the Child Dental Benefits Schedule or CDBS under Medicare to provide financial assistance to eligible families for dental services for their children aged between 2 and 17 years.

Your Brisbane child is eligible for CDBS if they are aged between 2-17 years at any point in the calendar year and receive a relevant Australian government payment at any point in the calendar year.

The CDBS provides Access to up to $1000 in benefits, capped over a two year calendar period that can be used for these dental services. The entire benefit cap of $1000 can be used in the first year if necessary. If there is a balance remaining in the benefit cap in the second year, this can only be accessed if the child is eligible in the second year. It is important that if you have accessed some of your benefits and change dentists that you tell the new dentist that some treatment has already proceeded.

How to find out whether your children are eligible to be covered under CDBS?

The best and the easiest way to find this out is by calling Sandgate Bayside Dental on 32692443 or by visiting the practice, and presenting your medicare card. You don’t necessarily need the medicare card itself as long as you can get us the number of the card and the IRN of the child. The practice staff can then within minutes find out the eligibility of your child and the balance money available.

What dental treatments are covered under CDBS ?

CDBS services are quite wide but are not completely comprehensive. Most patients will find its schedule of services more than adequate, but there will be the occasional difficulty due to some limitations. Check ups, scale & cleans, routine x rays, fillings etc are all covered though certain restrictions may still apply. Certain things like mouthguard are not covered under the scheme.

The scheme is being administered by Medicare Australia.  CDBS patients are warmly welcomed, please call our friendly reception team on 32692443

Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) Free Dental Scheme

Holders of DVA Gold Cards are welcome at Sandgate Bayside Dental. DVA patients are not obligated to pay a gap between DVA fees and practice fees. DVA patients are able to access most dental services, although there are restrictions on the frequency of particular items such as Dentures. More complicated Crown and Bridge procedures are allowed within a particular dollar limit per year. The practice has multiple DVA patients from the area who trust the practice and have been attending our practice for decades.

Metro North Queensland health Oral health vouchers

Sandgate Bayside Dental accepts the Oral health vouchers from Metro North. Any patient who has been provided with the said voucher can contact the practice and will be bulk billed for the treatment that is covered under the voucher. These vouchers are either emergency dental vouchers or general dental vouchers. We accept both these vouchers and provide our high quality dental care to all our patients.

Private Fee paying patients

For private fee paying patients, our fees are affordable. For people with health funds we accept all the health funds and we have hicaps facility to process on the spot health fund claim. 26/Jul/2020

If you’re looking for ‘dentist near me’ and require an emergency dentist in North Brisbane, Sandgate Bayside Dental can happily provide a little calm in your chaos. This can be a stressful time so let’s cut to the chase and give you what you need to know. Here’s what you need to do if you’re requiring emergency dental assistance.

Finding an Emergency Dentist in North Brisbane

We always keep a number of appointments open in case an emergency arises. We are open Monday to Saturday. Staff will advise you of what emergency appointments are available. They’ll also be able to give you some ‘over the phone’ assistance to help you minimise discomfort and calm down.

Be Careful With Painkillers

Using a painkiller might accidentally mask something a little more serious. Talk to our nursing staff over the phone and let them know what you’ve had and how you’re feeling. It’s best to try not to use too many painkillers until you’ve received medical advice to do so.

Where’s That Tooth?

Has an adult tooth come loose in an accident? Putting it in milk is a good way to help keep the cells in the root surface happy. Just make sure no one accidentally drinks the milk! Yuck!

Alternatively, you could pool the tooth into a cup of saliva or try placing it gently and carefully back where it came from before coming to visit your emergency dentist.

Call the Sandgate Bayside Dental Clinic on (07) 3269 2443 or Book Online

Getting To Sandgate Bayside Dental

We service the North side of Brisbane as we’re located in the Sandgate area. However, that doesn’t mean that we don’t welcome new patients, particularly if they really need our help!

If you’re travelling up from the south, your best and most direct way is to use the Gateway motorway. Be wary of the Deagon Deviation signage due to the ongoing roadworks project.

Coming up Sandgate Road? Take a right onto Board Street once you pass the KFC on your left. We’re easy to find from there. Right opposite the Sandgate Townhall, you can’t miss us !

Stay Calm

It may be an emergency but there’s no need to panic. Sandgate Bayside Dental are the Gentle Dentists. Allow us to ease your mind and calm your nerves as we expertly perform your procedure. Everything will be alright.

What Now?

Going to an emergency dentist could mean a quick fix on the spot or the first step in the process, depending on the injury or problem that led you here in the first place. This ‘next step’ approach will also help you plan for the cost of emergency dentistry, calming your nerves in that respect as well!

Affordable Emergency DentistAfterpayZip Pay or Payment plans

We accept all health funds. We can process your health fund through hicaps on the spot so you have to pay only the gap. Our prices are really affordable and we also offer services like Afterpay and Zip Pay as well as Interest Free Payment Plans

newyearchristmasresolution.jpg
26/Dec/2019

Every December we start to make New Year’s resolutions and a lot of the times those resolutions revolve around improving our overall health. So why not this time make a new year’s resolution that improves your oral and dental health. You will be surprised to see how much it can improve your general health and well-being. Here are some tips from dentists at Sandgate Bayside Dental.

Develop some good habits

Do you brush your teeth well at least twice a day, for at least two minutes each time? Do you floss between your teeth every time you brush your teeth? Do you visit your dentist for a check-up and a scale and clean every 6 months. Not following this regime can leave harmful bacteria sitting around your teeth causing serious damage to your teeth and your smile. This could have a lasting impact on your teeth and your confidence. So make sure you get into the good habits of maintaining your oral and dental health in 2020.
