$1000 Dental Voucher QLD: How to Use It at Sandgate Bayside Dental | Sandgate Bayside Dental

QLD Government Dental Voucher: What It Covers and How to Use It at Our Practice

If you’ve been waiting for public dental treatment in Queensland, you may have been offered a dental voucher to be seen at a private practice instead. Sandgate Bayside Dental is an approved Metro North Oral Health provider — which means we can accept your voucher and get you treated sooner, closer to home.

Quick eligibility check

To qualify for a Queensland Health dental voucher you must be a Queensland resident and hold one of the following concession cards:

  • Pensioner Concession Card (DVA or Centrelink)
  • Health Care Card
  • Commonwealth Seniors Health Card
  • Queensland Seniors Card

Children and adolescents who are Queensland residents may also be eligible — see the children’s section below.

What does the Queensland dental voucher cover?

Queensland Health issues two types of dental vouchers through Metro North Oral Health Services:

General dental voucher

Up to $750

Covers general dental treatment including check-ups, fillings, extractions, scale and clean, and preventive care.

Emergency dental voucher

Up to $260

For urgent dental pain, infection or trauma. Prioritised for patients who cannot wait for a general appointment.

The voucher covers the cost of treatment up to its value. If treatment exceeds the voucher amount, your dentist will discuss a treatment plan and additional costs with you before proceeding. In some cases a second voucher can be issued by Metro North for ongoing treatment.

What does “$1000 dental voucher QLD” refer to?

The “$1,000 dental voucher” commonly searched online refers to the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) — a separate Commonwealth-funded program, not a Queensland Health voucher. Under the CDBS, eligible children aged 0–17 can access up to $1,158 in dental benefits over two consecutive calendar years (2026 figure).

The two programs work differently:

Program Who it’s for Value Funded by
QLD Health Dental Voucher Eligible concession cardholders on public waiting list Up to $750 (general) / $260 (emergency) Queensland Government
Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) Eligible children aged 0–17 Up to $1,158 over 2 calendar years Australian Government

We accept both. If you’re unsure which program applies to you, call us on 07 3269 2443 and our team can help work it out.

Once you’re satisfied with your treatment, you’ll sign the voucher. Your dentist submits it directly to Queensland Health — there’s nothing further you need to do.

Important: Vouchers have an expiry date. Please contact us as soon as you receive your voucher to book in before it expires. Voucher appointments are high in demand — the sooner you call, the sooner we can see you.

Dental care for children: CDBS and public dental eligibility

Children aged 0–17 who receive Family Tax Benefit Part A or certain other Centrelink payments may be eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), which provides up to $1,158 in dental benefits over two consecutive calendar years. This covers check-ups, x-rays, cleans, fillings, root canal treatment and extractions — but not orthodontics or cosmetic work.

We bulk bill eligible patients under the CDBS. Find out more about children’s bulk billed dental at our practice.

Frequently asked questions

Is Sandgate Bayside Dental on the Metro North dental voucher provider list?

Yes. We are an approved private provider under the Metro North Oral Health Services outsourcing scheme. When Metro North issues your voucher, you will receive a list of participating providers — we are on that list.

What if my treatment costs more than the voucher value?

Your dentist will discuss a treatment plan and any gap before beginning work. In some cases Metro North can issue a second voucher. For any remaining costs, we offer interest-free payment plans from $50 per week.

Can I get a dental voucher if I’m not on the waiting list?

The Queensland Health voucher scheme is designed for patients already on the public dental waiting list who are being redirected to private providers. If you are not on a waiting list, you may still be eligible for other government programs such as the CDBS (for children) or DVA dental (for veterans).

How long does it take to get an appointment once I have my voucher?

Call us as soon as your voucher is issued. Voucher appointments are offered on a first-come, first-served basis and do fill up. We will offer you the earliest available slot.

Does the $1,000 dental voucher QLD apply to adults or children?

The “$1,000 dental voucher” most commonly refers to the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), which provides up to $1,158 for children aged 0–17 over two calendar years. Queensland Health’s adult voucher scheme provides up to $750 for general treatment. We accept both programs — call us to confirm which applies to you.
