At Sandgate Bayside Dental, we understand that accidents happen. Our practice is open six days a week offering various services. If you experience an accident or pain or for any kind of dental needs, call us on 07 3269 2443 and we will be able to book you an appointment with our highly experienced dentists. We will strive to book an appointment for you as soon as possible in order to help you alleviate your pain and offer a permanent solution to your problem. We keep appointments every day for emergencies including Saturdays. Our online bookings are open 24 hours for you to book a convenient time yourself.

What kind of dental emergency can arise?

There are several reasons that you may need to see a dentist urgently. These include:

  • Broken teeth
  • Lost teeth through accident or injury
  • Sudden, unbearable toothache
  • Dental abscess
  • Damage to braces, crowns & bridges and other restorations
  • Excessive or unstoppable bleeding after oral surgery

Here is what your dentist may do if you come for an emergency appointment at Sandgate Bayside Dental:

Broken teeth

You should see a dentist even for minor chips or cracks, to prevent further problems arising. Your dentist will smooth down any rough edges of a damaged tooth and restore it using white fillings, composite bonding or crowns, depending on the amount and area of damage.

Lost teeth

If your teeth are knocked out in an accident or through injury, it may be possible for your dentist to re-implant them in the socket. Only pick your tooth up by the crown, never by the root. If you can’t re-implant it yourself, put it in a clean container covered in your own saliva or milk, and come to our practice as soon as possible. Never re implant baby teeth though.

Tooth ache and dental abscess

Unbearable tooth ache or dental abscess (painful swellings) require quick action from a dentist. We will drain any abscesses under local anaesthetic and will get you out of pain – you may require further appointments to fully correct a problem.

Broken orthodontic devices and restorations

If a brace, bridge or other restoration breaks, book an appointment at Sandgate Bayside Dental as soon as you can. We will restore or replace devices as necessary.

Cost

Our prices are highly competitive. We offer several payment options like Afterpay, Zip Pay and Interest Free Payment Plans (Humm). For children under 17yrs of age, we can bulk bill their dental treatment (check eligibility with our front desk staff). We do accept DVA card and Oral health vouchers from Metro North Oral health services.

Your Local North Brisbane Dentists at Sandgate Bayside Dental are ready

As your Local Sandgate Dentist knows, the Australian Dental Association’s annual health promotion campaign, Dental Health Week, takes place from 3rd – 9th August 2020.  The aim of this is to educate all Australians about the importance of maintaining good oral health in their lives.

This year, the focus of Dental Health week is the effect of sugar on oral health, specifically with the aim of shedding light on hidden sugars.

Being healthy is something that most of us aim for.

We brush our teeth twice a day. We go for a jog around the neighbourhood. We eat a handful of nuts instead of chomping on a chocolate. We see our doctor whenever we don’t feel well.

But are you aware that all your good work could be being undone by sugars lurking in the depths of many of the processed food items you consume?

Sugar is everywhere in supermarket staples, even some that might appear to be healthy on the surface, and so this Dental Health Week (3 – 9 August | dentalhealthweek.com.au), we’re pulling back the sugary curtain to show you what’s really in the food you eat, and how this information can help you be healthier all over but especially in your mouth.

In other words, we want you to become more “sugar savvy”. It’s time to take a closer look at your supermarket purchases. They’re not as healthy as you might think.

Some of the key recommendations from ADA

Consume no more than 6 teaspoons (24 grams) of free sugar per day

Choose foods with less than 10 grams of sugar per 100 grams.

Look out for hidden sugars when purchasing foods and drinks.

Some General messages from ADA on Dental health week

Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste.

Clean between your teeth daily with floss or interdental brushes.

Eat a nutritious diet, low in sugar.
Visit your dentist regularly for check-ups and preventative care.

Your local Brighton dentists at Sandgate Bayside Dental are taking part in this year’s ADA run Dental Health Week. We encourage you to start monitoring your sugar intake and be sugar savvy!

If you’re looking for ‘dentist near me’ and require an emergency dentist in North Brisbane, Sandgate Bayside Dental can happily provide a little calm in your chaos. This can be a stressful time so let’s cut to the chase and give you what you need to know. Here’s what you need to do if you’re requiring emergency dental assistance.

Finding an Emergency Dentist in North Brisbane

We always keep a number of appointments open in case an emergency arises. We are open Monday to Saturday. Staff will advise you of what emergency appointments are available. They’ll also be able to give you some ‘over the phone’ assistance to help you minimise discomfort and calm down.

Be Careful With Painkillers

Using a painkiller might accidentally mask something a little more serious. Talk to our nursing staff over the phone and let them know what you’ve had and how you’re feeling. It’s best to try not to use too many painkillers until you’ve received medical advice to do so.

Where’s That Tooth?

Has an adult tooth come loose in an accident? Putting it in milk is a good way to help keep the cells in the root surface happy. Just make sure no one accidentally drinks the milk! Yuck!

Alternatively, you could pool the tooth into a cup of saliva or try placing it gently and carefully back where it came from before coming to visit your emergency dentist.

Getting To Sandgate Bayside Dental

We service the North side of Brisbane as we’re located in the Sandgate area. However, that doesn’t mean that we don’t welcome new patients, particularly if they really need our help!

If you’re coming from Redcliffe, Clontarf, Margate or Scarborough veer towards the water after you pass Decker Pass after coming over the bridge. Pass Dowse Lagoon Reserve on your right and you’re nearly there.

If you’re travelling up from the south, your best and most direct way is to use the Gateway motorway. Be wary of the Deagon Deviation signage due to the ongoing roadworks project.

Coming up Sandgate Road? Take a right onto Board Street once you pass the KFC on your left. We’re easy to find from there. Right opposite the Sandgate Townhall, you can’t miss us !

Stay Calm

It may be an emergency but there’s no need to panic. Sandgate Bayside Dental are the Gentle Dentists. Allow us to ease your mind and calm your nerves as we expertly perform your procedure. Everything will be alright.

What Now?

Going to an emergency dentist could mean a quick fix on the spot or the first step in the process, depending on the injury or problem that led you here in the first place. This ‘next step’ approach will also help you plan for the cost of emergency dentistry, calming your nerves in that respect as well!

Affordable Emergency DentistAfterpayZip Pay or Payment plans

We accept all health funds. We can process your health fund through hicaps on the spot so you have to pay only the gap. Our prices are really affordable and we also offer services like Afterpay and Zip Pay as well as Interest Free Payment Plans

Our practice has been in the area since 1992 and our dentists are highly experienced. We can assure you that you will be in good hands.

We understand that your family’s teeth are incredibly important – and we’re dedicated to looking after your smile and the smiles of your family members for years to come. Read on to find out more about what you should be looking for in your family’s dentist!

What are the benefits?

Having one dentist to tend to your family’s dental needs means that your dentist will be able to assess the overall health of your family’s teeth, while gaining a greater understanding of any genetic issues that may be present. Your dentist will also be able to help with any environmental factors that may be impacting the health of your family’s teeth – these factors include diet, the quality of the water you drink, and any chemicals or materials you might come in contact with around your home. And having a dentist within minutes’ drive of your home in Deagon, Brighton, or Boondall is an added convenience.

What to consider

Comfort. Ensuring that all members of your family are comfortable with the dentist you choose is paramount. Many people are anxious about going to the dentist, especially children, so choosing a dentist who is gentle, approachable, and patient is really important to ensure your family’s oral health is well looked after. We also have TVs on the ceiling to switch to your favourite program diverting your mind away from the dentists’ tools!

The services on offer. Every family’s dental needs differ, especially over time. You need to choose a dentist who is capable of offering a wide range of services – from emergency services to children’s dental care, services particular to adults such as dental implants and of course, cosmetic dentistry such as Clearcorrect and Invisalign. We provide all those services in our practice.

Affordability. Your family’s health is important, but it’s also important that the services on offer suit your budget. Choose a dentist who will provide affordable services to your family, as well as offer you access to government-funded schemes such as child dental benefit and Veteran’s affairs (DVA) under medicare. To make care more affordable we have partnered with Afterpay and Zip pay. We also offer no interest payment plans to suit your budget so you can have the peace of mind of getting the best dental care without waiting.

Availability. Our practice opens everyday, from Monday through to Saturday. We also offer late evening services for busy families. For any dental emergencies, we always keep spots in our busy appointment books so you don’t have to wait for weeks to see our dentist. With our online bookings you can book in anytime be it day or night, at your convenience.

Health Funds. We offer on the spot Hicaps claiming from your health fund so you only have to pay the gap. We accept all health funds and all we need is your health fund card. We have partnered with several health funds to get you the best rebate.

Wisdom teeth are the third (and the last) molars which appear at the back of your mouth, typically between the ages of 17 – 21 years. While few of the people may not have any issues with them coming through, many others find them problematic.

Why are they called Wisdom Teeth?

In dental terminology these teeth are called third molars. Due to the age when they erupt (late teenage or just after that) it’s the time when people are getting wise (if they really are 😊). Hence because of the age when they erupt, they are also called wisdom teeth.

Some people get no or only one or two wisdom teeth while others get all 4 of them. You may experience problems with your wisdom teeth if any of the following occur:

  • Your wisdom teeth erupt from the gums partially due to the lack of space in your mouth. This causes a flap of gum tissue to develop over the teeth, which may trap food and contribute to a gum infection. This is the most common issue that happens with erupting wisdom teeth.
  • Your jaw does not have enough room to accommodate your wisdom teeth. This causes the teeth to get stuck in your jaw without being able to break through the gums. Such teeth are referred to as impacted teeth.
  • There is often a pocket between the wisdom tooth and the tooth just in front which is difficult to keep clean. The food keeps getting deposited there and many times even our normal cleaning methods can’t keep it clean. This may lead to decay starting in the wisdom tooth, or worse, in the molar in front leading to serious problems.
  • The teeth grow slanted or face the wrong direction.
  • They are too far at the back. This makes it difficult to clean around them and they get cavities.
  • Many orthodontists believe that the pressure from the eruption of the developing wisdom teeth can cause the front teeth to become overcrowded,

and hence removal of wisdom teeth is often recommended before or immediately after Invisalign or braces treatment.

Every December we start to make New Year’s resolutions and a lot of the times those resolutions revolve around improving our overall health. So why not this time make a new year’s resolution that improves your oral and dental health. You will be surprised to see how much it can improve your general health and well-being. Here are some tips from dentists at Sandgate Bayside Dental.

Develop some good habits

Do you brush your teeth well at least twice a day, for at least two minutes each time? Do you floss between your teeth every time you brush your teeth? Do you visit your dentist for a check-up and a scale and clean every 6 months. Not following this regime can leave harmful bacteria sitting around your teeth causing serious damage to your teeth and your smile. This could have a lasting impact on your teeth and your confidence. So make sure you get into the good habits of maintaining your oral and dental health in 2020.

We get two sets of teeth, baby teeth and adult teeth. We lose our baby teeth by the age of around 11-14 years of age and those teeth are replaced by adult teeth. After that age if we lose a tooth we don’t get a new one.

Interesting fact – About 90% of all tooth loss is due to dental decay and gum disease and both those problems are preventable or controllable for most part. So visiting your dentist regularly can help you prevent both these problems and in turn saves you from losing your teeth.

How often should you visit your dentist? A very common question asked by many people. According to Australian Dental Association (ADA) you should visit your dentist every 6 months though after few visits to your dentist this interval may be varied. “You should have a dental check-up every 6 months, but some people may not need to go so often and others may need more frequent checks” NHS, UK.
