Bulk Billing & Government Dental Schemes in Brisbane
Written and clinically reviewed by Dr Vikram Bansal BDS — Last reviewed: June 2026
In short: Quality dental care shouldn’t depend on your budget. We bulk bill eligible children under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS), welcome DVA Gold Card holders with no gap to pay, accept Metro North Queensland Health vouchers, and offer HICAPS, health funds and payment plans for everyone else.
If cost is what’s stopping you from booking, you may have more options than you think. Below is a plain-English guide to the government schemes we accept and how to find out what you’re entitled to.
| Scheme | Who it’s for | What you pay |
|---|---|---|
| CDBS | Eligible children aged 2–17 | Bulk billed, up to $1,158 (2026) |
| DVA Gold Card | Veterans and eligible dependants | No gap — fully covered |
| Metro North vouchers | Eligible voucher holders | Bulk billed for covered treatment |
| Private / health fund | Everyone else | HICAPS on the spot; plans from $50/week |
Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS)
The CDBS is a Medicare scheme that helps eligible families cover the cost of their children’s dental care. Your child is eligible if they’re aged between 2 and 17 at any point in the calendar year and your family receives a relevant Australian Government payment (such as Family Tax Benefit Part A) at some point that year.
Eligible children can access up to $1,158 in benefits (2026 cap), pooled over a two-calendar-year period. The full amount can be used in the first year if needed; any balance only carries into the second year if your child remains eligible. If you’ve already used some of the benefit with another dentist, let us know so we can check your remaining balance.
CDBS covers most routine care — check-ups, scale and cleans, routine x-rays and fillings — though some items (like mouthguards) aren’t included and certain restrictions apply. For more on children’s appointments, see our bulk billed children’s dentist page.
Not sure if your child is eligible? The quickest way to check is to call us on 3269 2443 with your Medicare card number and your child’s IRN — our reception team can confirm eligibility and your available balance in minutes.
Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) dental
We welcome DVA Gold Card holders, who can access most dental services with no gap to pay between DVA fees and our practice fees. Some items — such as dentures — have frequency limits, and more complex crown and bridge work is covered within an annual dollar limit. Many of our DVA patients have trusted us with their care for decades, and we’re proud to look after the local veteran community.
Metro North Queensland Health vouchers
We accept Oral Health vouchers issued by Metro North — both emergency dental vouchers and general dental vouchers. If you’ve been issued one, just bring it along and the treatment covered by the voucher is bulk billed. To learn more about how the voucher scheme works, see our guide to Queensland government dental vouchers. For urgent problems, our emergency dentist team can help.
Private patients, health funds & payment plans
If you’re paying privately, our fees are kept affordable. We accept all health funds and have HICAPS on site to process your claim on the spot, so you only pay the gap. We also offer Afterpay, Zip and interest-free payment plans from $50 a week — so the cost of treatment doesn’t have to hold you back.
